D Fighter Revolution is the sequel for the D Fighter game I had made for the SFR engine. This game uses the newer, better UFGE .90 engine, a "create you own fighter" engine made by Trufenix, the creator of SFR (infact the new engine is the reason I gave this game the "revolution" label). Like D Fighter this will have edited characters based on DC characters.
I want to make this clear that I do not intend this game as a competition with other mugen creators or games. I do know it takes a lot of hard work to create mugen characters, and appreciate what goes into them. I want to make this game so it complements the DCvM project. Sort of how Capcom vs SNK 2 would compare to SNK vs Capcom: Chaos to each other. A difference in character rosters and reactions, but similar in theme. I do know that my Ice sprites are being made into a character by Buyog for the DC vs Marvel game, as well as some other WIPs. There are some sprites and WIP's I have seen for this project I would like to use, however I will ask permission first and will only do after the public release of this demo.
Before, I was open with sharing sprites for other Mugen projects. However after seeing several sub par projects made by some people known for stealing (you know who you are), I decided to change this policy. I can't really do anything to stop this, but I'm going to be more selective in the future on who I give permission to use the sprites.
Press enter to select an opening menu item. These can be changed in options.

Pressing Start or any Kick button will select a random pallete.
Here is a quick list of the basic universal character properties. I'd compare the game feel I'm going for as similar to Street Fighter Alpha and Darkstalkers.
Before I resized the characters for SFR, but this time for UFGE each character will have his original sprite size.
Each character will have a vs style super bar that fills to 3 levels. And most will have around 2 level 1 Super arts. I may make some level 3 arts for one or two characters.
Even though chaining is possible, I won't use it unless it fits the character (like a speedster or martial artist).
Characters can block in the air.
Light juggling is possible.
Characters and dash or run forward and backwards by tapping twice in either direction.
There is no super jumping, but there are some moves which will fly high and take advantage of the tall backgrounds.

You face one of these characters at random after four matches. Although initially unplayable, each of these characters can be unlocked with a code you get after beating the game. Shiva and Rival were the bosses of the previous betas.

These are characters that I was dissapointed with and took them out of main roster/boss list. However, they are but still playable, they just wont show up in regular gameplay. Think of them as betas. To access them, keep tapping down on the select screen until they appear.

There are some bugs in this project, but nothing that will really take away from the gameplay.
If you want to play story mode, be sure to choose it first when you run the game, otherwise you will not be able to play the character you choose.
Brawl mode may have some problems with hit reactions (like holds). I designed the characters overall for one on one mode.
If two players throw at the same time then both may go into their throw animation with neither player taking damage.
My goal was to have a complete game with at least 30 characters and 3 bosses. I have completed that goal and surpassed it with this roster, most of whom are characters I really wanted to make. Despite the fact that the roster has several obscure characters, I wanted to get at least what I called the "big five" which are Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, and a Green Lantern. I can now call this a complete game. I am going to work on another project, but it is not out of the question for me to go back to this and add a fair amount of characters. There are some Mugen characters out there I want to use (with permission of course :) ) and there are some ideas I have left over. I can see myself working on a "Champion Edition" in due time.
The DC vs Marvel guys have been very cool with helping me out with character sprites. Also a huge thanks to Fenix for all his hard work on the UFGE engine.
I apologize in advance for the lousy storyline :P. With the exception of the early SFninja and SFRanma games, I had a lot of trouble with the endings and found that to be a huge block for me releasing a game. I decided to go with a generic story like in MvC2, and go with that.
The reason I use so many midi files from the Megaman X games? I was a fan of many of the mid 90's Capcom CPS2 fighters and one of the many things I loved was the music (I was very dissapointed with MvC2's lighter soundtrack). I felt that the Megaman X games has a very similar sound, so I used a lot of them in this game. Also note that I used Ryu's MvSF theme for Superman's background music.
BTW for those who care my original ideas for the midbosses were Guy Gardner Warrior, Uncle Sam, Cyborg Superman and Bizarro Superman. I had problems with brainstorming for the first two. Although I may still make some at a later time.
Fenixware/UFGE | Thanks to Trufenix for creating the UFGE engine and getting me started on this stuff over again. Visit the Fenixware page for the UFGE engine and other projects. |
Llinrac | Thanks to Llinrac for his help with backgrounds and moral support. |
... | Thanks to the others on the Fenixware boards and anyone who worked on SFR in the past. |
Thanks to Jenn Dolari for the original SFJenn game for SFibm.
Huge thanks to the ScruffyDragon/DC vs Marvel Mugen team from the message boards for the help and feedback. Hannibal's Superman and MamboJambo's Plastic Man can be found here.
... | Thanks Wil.li.an from the scruffydragon forums for the nnew select screen portriats. |
Despite the many lousy characters made for Mugen with my sprites, I should contrast this with Smogon Kane, Buyog2099, Lord Magus, and McCready's great job with Ice for the DC vs Marvel project. I've used their work on Ice as well as some of their ideas when updating her.
I originally edited Ice from Falchion's Athletic Chun Li character.
Huge thanks to Slotman for all his creations for Mugen that he let me use. The sprites for Superboy were his creation and I also used his stages for Oa, Titan Tower and the Hall of Justice. He also used my JSA Flash sprites to make a pretty good mugen character. Some more of his contributions will be in the next update.
The Wonder Woman mugen character by Loganir and the DvM gang can be found here.
The Lion-o edit by Hystalin that I edited into Cyborg can be found here at Saturday Morning Mugenizations.
The Captain Marvel beta by MICROmor & 5k0rX that I used to make John Stewart and Captain Atom can be found here at MugenScozor.
KillaCroc edited the Project X Banshee I used to make Sinestro.
The Orimuga project is a fangame that released some open source sprites. I used their Adam character to make the Joker.
Video Game Music Archive | This site has a ton of great midi files that I used for the background music. I used many from the Megaman X series because I felt that it was really close to the music used in the mid 90's Capcom fighters. |
